Lessons in Creativity: Nintendo
Introduction
In doing research for my book coaching business, my study has dovetailed into creativity science.
tl;dr there are a ton of new studies on creativity based on emerging technology. It turns out that creativity is hard-wired into us and can be a vital component of overall mental health and physical wellness. They’ve even observed folks with creative habits see immunity gains at the cellular level through higher T-cell counts!! (I’m here for creative superhumans who just like…tell a lot of stories at futuristic tea houses.)
There is also emerging science on how foundational creativity is to our survival as a species. It’s a forum through which we transmit culture, ideas, and insights. It’s also baked into our genetic code. During our several thousand-year stint as hunter-gatherers, curiosity and creative thinking were what helped us survive.*
The tragedy of it all, though, is that most of us have our creative instincts destroyed by standardized tests from the time we are wee babies. By the time we’re adults nearly 50% of folks don’t think they’re creative. They just assume people who are creative make weird sculptures to put in modern art museums.
BUT WE’RE LITERALLY ALL GENETICALLY PROGRAMMED TO BE CREATIVE.
