Quick Download: Walt Disney pioneered new ways to use sound and music in his movies; he knew the auditory experience was a crucial component of cinema’s magic.

Introduction: Documentary Dust

I received a lot of targeted Google News about Disney’s centenary celebration this past year. As a youth I was obsessed with everything the studio created, so, even as an adult, I often click on absolutely worthless Disney information to feed my algorithm.

(Yes, I would like to know if “Cinderella’s Glass Slipper Is an Indictment of Late-Stage Capitalism”. Thank you so much, Google!)

Earlier this fall, the news cycle’s focus was on Snow White and the re-release of the film in 4K resolution. The movie was one of my favorites growing up, so I got the Blu-Ray and watched every special feature available. I know I’m old because I have reached the age when a whimsical animated story is of secondary interest to the dry documentary content that accompanies it.

There were far too many interesting things to count in the making of this classic movie, but one of the things that came up was Disney’s brilliant use of sound and music.
