Book Coach Corner: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Background: What Is Book Coach Corner?
Book Coach Corner is a blog series that allows me (your neighborhood-friendly book coach) to analyze books, TV shows, and movies. I then dissect them in terms of story structure. As a heads up: there will be spoilers, and some posts may not make sense if you haven’t seen/read the work.
Those are the details. This entry explores the John Hughes classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
Synopsis
Wow. You haven’t seen it? Well, okay, so this movie follows beloved high school senior, Ferris Bueller, as he ditches school with his girlfriend and best friend. As the miscreants enjoy a day in Chicago, Ferris is hunted by his principal and jealous sister.
Quick Thoughts
I hadn’t seen this movie in years, and I couldn’t believe how much I enjoyed it. One — it’s only 90 minutes. Can Hollywood take a memo? A movie doesn’t have to be 2.5 hours long. Two — John Hughes is a genius. His knack for understanding people and writing comedy is incredible. Three — the cast of talented actors he got for this film is unmatched. Everyone in it from the secretary to the mischievous valet is hysterical. Lastly— the story is really unique in its construction.
